GE Fanuc 90-70 Central Processor IC697CGR772 This guide provides a straightforward method for testing the GE Fanuc 90-70 Central Processor, part number IC697CGR772. The test is applicable to all revisions. The door has been removed in this guide for better visibility, and the rack used is the IC697CHS750.

Step 1: Power Up Using an IC697PWR711 Power Supply

  • Power up the processor.

Step 2: Connect AS693SNP232 Cable to Port 3

  • Connect the AS693SNP232 cable to Port 3.

  • Check that the bottom right LED for Port 3 is blinking.

  • Blinking indicates Port 3 is functional and communicating.

Step 3: Clear Controller & I/O Fault Table and Enter Run Mode

  • Open Proficy* Machine Edition GE software.

  • Navigate to Target >> Online Commands.

  • Clear "Controller Fault Table" and "I/O Fault Table" only.

  • Press OK.

  • Click the "Download and Run" icon.

  • Select to download Hardware Configuration and Logic.

  • Do NOT write to flash memory or initial force values.

  • Goal: Get processor into RUN mode.

Step 4: Confirm LEDs After Successful Build

  • Observe the processor:

    • Top right LED: OK

    • Middle left LED: Run Enabled

    • Bottom left LED: I/O Enabled

Step 5: Use 3-Part Switch to Test LED Behavior

  • Switch in top position: All 3 LEDs (Processor, Run, I/O) should be on.

  • Middle position: I/O Disabled LED should be off.

  • Bottom position: Run Disabled LED should be off.

Step 6: Test Memory Protect Switch

  • Located on top of processor.

  • Turn ON the switch.

  • Verify Memory Protect LED lights up.

Step 7: Test Port 2 Communication

  • Unplug from Port 3.

  • Plug the cable into Port 2.

  • Confirm communication is working.

Step 8: Test Port 1 Using IC693CBL316 Cable

  • Use IC693CBL316 cable (phone jack to serial port).

  • Connect to Port 1 and your computer.

  • Verify top right LED blinks, indicating communication.

Step 9: Additional Troubleshooting if Issues Persist

  • Leave processor running overnight or longer to ensure stability.

  • If processor exits RUN mode, use Proficy* Machine Edition:

    • Go to Target >> Diagnostics.

    • Review diagnostics table to identify issues.
