PLC Programmable Logic Controller

II. INTRODUCTION

Genius I/O blocks are intelligent, self-contained, configurable I/O modules. Made from cast aluminum, each Genius I/O block weighs approximately 4 lbs (1.8 kg) and measures about 9” x 4” x 3”.

For reference:

  • Environmental specifications: See Appendix 1

  • Block types and ordering part numbers: See Appendix 2

III. BASIC DIAGNOSTICS VIA LED INDICATIONS

Each Genius Block features two diagnostic LEDs:

  • "Unit OK" LED

  • "I/O Enabled" LED

At startup, both LEDs should display a steady RED light.

IV. TROUBLESHOOTING SCENARIOS

  1. HEALTHY GENIUS BLOCK

    • LED Status:

      • Unit OK: Steady ON (RED)

      • I/O Enabled: Steady ON (RED)

  2. GENIUS BLOCK WITH BUS FAULT

    • LED Status:

      • Unit OK: Steady ON (RED)

      • I/O Enabled: OFF

    • Corrective Actions:

      • Cycle power to the GBC

      • Verify the CPU is in RUN/ENABLED mode

      • Check Genius Bus connections and termination

      • Confirm baud rate consistency across GBC and all Genius Blocks

  3. GENIUS BLOCK WITH FORCED CHANNEL(S)

    • LED Status:

      • Unit OK: Steady ON (RED)

      • I/O Enabled: Blinking ON (RED)

    • Cause:

      • Channel(s) forced by the program or HHM

  4. GENIUS BLOCK WITH CHANNEL FAULT

    • LED Status:

      • Unit OK: Blinking ON (RED)

      • I/O Enabled: Steady ON (RED)

    • Corrective Actions:

      • Isolate and troubleshoot the specific channel reporting fault

      • Replace or reconfigure affected field device

V. LED STATUS DIAGNOSTIC TABLE

Unit OK LED I/O Enabled LED Status Description
Steady ON Steady ON Healthy Operation
Steady ON OFF Bus Fault
Steady ON Blinking Forced Channels
Blinking Steady ON Channel Fault
