Exploring the Capabilities: Johnson Electric Metasys DX Series Selection Guide

The Metasys DX series, developed by Johnson Electric, comprises digital plant controllers and LCDs designed for diverse applications like HVAC, lighting, and security. Certain DX series controllers support LonWorks features and peer-to-peer communication, enabling centralized control and monitoring in building automation systems. They can also function locally without needing a network connection. These controllers feature a user-friendly graphical interface for easy monitoring and control, with customization options to display crucial information.

The Metasys DX series controllers from Johnson Electric provide a comprehensive and scalable solution for control operations, meeting the demands of diverse industrial applications with precision, adaptability, and advanced features. Working between 0 and 50 °C, the controllers can be used in various environmental circumstances. With LCDs featuring 240 x 180 pixels resolution and 256K bytes of flash memory, the DX series ensures clear information presentation and ample storage capacity. It is a versatile option for building automation and control applications, with different versions catering to different needs.

DX-9200 The DX-9200 Digital Controller is ideal for digital control applications, particularly in Air Handling Units (AHU) or distributed lighting systems. It offers flexible hardware and software, with extension bus capabilities for I/O expansion, and integrates into the Metasys Network. The controller includes a real-time clock and time program and can be configured via the GX-9100 Configuration Tool. Sensor inputs support 0-10V, 4-20 mA transmitters, and passive sensors. It operates on 24 VAC @ 10 VA and can function from 0 to 40°C, storing from -20 to 70°C.

DX-9121 The DX-9121 controller supports lighting systems, AHUs, and chiller/boiler applications. It includes real-time clock, peer-to-peer communication, and extendable I/O via XT (RS485) extension bus. Up to 8 modules can be connected, either adjacent or remotely (up to 1200 meters). It features a local LED display and integrates with the Metasys Network via LONWORKS N2E Bus. It operates from 0 to 50°C, stores from -20 to 70°C, and uses 24 VAC @ 10 VA.

DX-9100 The DX-9100 offers flexible standalone PLC/DDC control for HVAC and lighting applications. It supports up to eight analog inputs (RTD, 0-10V, 0-20 mA), has 64 logic result status variables, and communicates with up to 8 XT-Bus extension modules. The device includes programmable constants and supports customized logic configurations.

DX-9100-8454 This variant provides expanded analog output capabilities (up to 8 outputs) and supports 0-10V or 0-20mA signals with 4mA offset. It features programmable logic, schedule, and optimal start/stop modules, with configuration via external tools. Dimensions: 184mm x 185mm x 200mm. Requires RS-485/N2 Bus connection.

DX-9100-8154 Fully configurable with 2 analog and 6 digital outputs, expandable to 8 modules. Includes GX-9100 configuration software, 13-bit analog inputs, and support for pulse/on-off outputs. It accepts 8 digital inputs with transition counters and includes logic block programming, time scheduling, and DIN rail or surface mount options.

DX-912x-8454 This standalone controller uses an embedded LonWorks processor to connect up to 30 units on a network, supporting peer-to-peer analog and digital communication. It allows up to 16 analog and 8 digital network inputs/outputs. Ideal for sharing environmental and operational data across controllers without a supervisory system.

Conclusion The Johnson Electric Metasys DX series is a robust digital plant control platform offering advanced functionality, scalability, and ease of use. Whether for HVAC, lighting, or building security, controllers like the DX-9200, DX-9121, DX-9100 variants, and DX-912x models deliver efficient automation solutions. Each controller is tailored to meet specific application needs, from standalone flexibility to network-integrated control, making the DX series a cornerstone in building automation.
