The Honeywell 3040A is a high-performance Variable Reluctance Speed (VRS) sensor designed for industrial applications requiring precise speed and timing measurements. This passive, self-powered sensor operates without an external voltage source, utilizing a permanent magnet to establish a fixed magnetic field. As a ferrous metal target approaches and passes near the sensor's pole piece, the flux lines of the magnetic field change, inducing a current in the coil winding. The resulting AC output signal varies in amplitude and frequency with the speed of the monitored device, providing accurate speed data. With a rugged stainless steel housing and a wide operating temperature range of -55°C to +120°C, the 3040A is suitable for demanding environments. It features a 5/8-18 UNF-2A threaded mounting and offers a minimum output voltage of 70 V peak-to-peak, ensuring reliable performance in various industrial applications.
